The Citrine: November Birthstone
History, legend and gemstone lore
Named for the French
word for lemon, the citrine comes in a variety
of golden and yellow hues. It was once thought
that the citirine could protect against snake
venom.
Source, Composition and
Jewelry Variety
Like the Amethyst, the
Citrine is a form of Quartz. In fact, most
citrine sold today is Amethyst which has been
heat treated to bring out its color. Also
like Amethyst, Citrine is plentiful and affordable.
Citrine jewelry with large fine quality specimens
can be bought at very reasonable prices. It
is primarily mined in Brazil. The color of
the Citrine, whether heat treated or not,
may fade if the jewelry is exposed to prolonged
heat or sunlight.
